- Climb sustained hills (≈ up to 3 km) without dismounting
- Maintain pace and stamina on longer, more technical rides
Skill Level Guide (Context)
Advanced
- Beginning to race (or riding at an equivalent standard)
- Comfortable on black trails, including steeper descents, tighter corners, technical features
- Strong line choice, advanced braking, good pace control
- Focus on refining speed management, race craft, technique, and etiquette at higher pace
Age Guidance
Typically suits riders 12+.
Younger riders are unlikely to be suitable due to pace, intensity, and terrain.
Bike & Equipment Requirements
Program rides fast, rough terrain — bikes must be safe, durable, and suitable for advanced trail use.
Recommended bike spec
- Quality front suspension (rear suspension strongly recommended)
- Hydraulic disc brakes in excellent order
- Durable drivetrain; quality pedals
- Well-adjusted gears shifting cleanly
- Tyres with solid, aggressive tread
- 27.5″ wheels or larger
- Regular professional servicing
Minimum prep for every session
- Bike safety check completed: brakes functional, bolts tight, gears shifting well, tyres inflated
- Rider brings 1.5 L water minimum
- Rider carries a spare tube (including for tubeless setups) — we suggest strapping one to the frame
Unsafe bikes or flats without a compatible tube may require removing a rider from the session, which impacts the group.

Additional road-trip mandatory items
