Description
Junior Development Team — Term Program (with Road Trips)
High-challenge coaching for confident Upper Intermediate riders who want to progress on technical terrain. Saturday sessions (Noosa/Parklands), three full-day road trips per term with transport, small groups, PMBIA-qualified coaches.
Our Junior Development Team (JDT) is for riders aiming to take their mountain biking to the next level. Sessions focus on advanced skill development, challenge, and progression on more technical trails, delivered by experienced coaches in small, ability-matched groups.
Program Format
- Term-only program: Single-term enrolment with one upfront payment. (School holidays and subscription perks are not included in this term-only option.)
- Session time: Saturdays, 9:00 am – 11:00 am (120 minutes).
- Group placement: Small groups each session. Coaches place riders based on observed skills and may adjust groups in the first 1–2 weeks to ensure the best progression fit.
Saturday Locations
Alternates weekly between:
- Noosa (Wooroi MTB Trails)
- Nambour (Parklands MTB Trails)
- Road trip details will be communicated closer to the time but tend to run 8am-5pm
Rotation may adjust across the term to suit conditions and coaching goals.
Road Trips (Included)
- 3 full-day Saturday road trips per term (transport provided).
- Destinations vary across South East QLD.
- Additional costs may apply for shuttle uplift or private park access (payable on the day; destination-dependent).
- Protective gear requirements apply — see Protective Equipment below.
Is My Rider Ready? (Entry Standard)
For safety and group flow, JDT riders must be able to:
- Comfortably descend intermediate (blue) trails at speed, in control — handling berms, small drops, and rocky/steep sections without dismounting.
- Climb for extended periods (up to ~1 km) without dismounting.
- Maintain pace/resilience suitable for longer, more technical rides.
JDT suits Upper Intermediate and Advanced/Race riders. Strong Intermediates are welcome if they meet all of the above.
Skill Level Guide (context)
Upper Intermediate
Comfortable on all blue trails at speed and in control; can safely navigate some lower-end black features when appropriate; manages moderate roots/rocks and roll-downs; developing manuals, berm speed, and technical climbing/descending.
Age Guidance
Typically suits riders aged 10+; younger/older riders are welcome — please contact us prior to booking.
Bike & Equipment Requirements
Because JDT rides faster, rougher terrain, bikes must be safe and suitable for advanced trail use.
Recommended bike spec:
- Quality front suspension (rear suspension strongly recommended).
- Hydraulic disc brakes in excellent condition.
- Durable drivetrain suitable for rough, high-speed riding.
- Quality pedals; gears well-adjusted and shifting cleanly.
- Tyres with solid tread.
- 27.5″ wheels or larger.
- Regularly serviced and well-maintained.
Minimum preparation for every session:
- Bike passes a safety check: both brakes functional, bolts tight, gears shifting correctly, tyres inflated.
- Rider brings at least 1.5 L water and can carry it while riding.
- Rider carries a spare tube suitable for their wheels (including tubeless setups). We suggest strapping a tube to the frame so it’s never forgotten.
These are minimum requirements. If a rider presents with an unsafe bike or a flat with no compatible tube, we may need to remove them from the ride and contact parents — which impacts the whole group.
Protective Equipment
Mandatory (all sessions):
- Correctly fitting Australian Standards–approved helmet.
- MTB-specific footwear.
- Full-finger gloves (recommended every week; compulsory on road trips).
Additional road-trip mandatory items:
- Full-face helmet — compulsory.
- Knee pads — compulsory.
Recommended:
- Knee pads (compulsory on road trips; optional other weeks).
- Elbow pads.
Program Inclusions
- Free bike safety checks; discounted basic servicing (quick adjustments).
- Free access to ad-hoc basic bike maintenance sessions run by Bike On.
- Discounted access to destination ride programs (e.g., Thredbo, Blue Derby, Maydena). Conditions/exclusions apply.
Wet Weather, Cancellations & No-Shows (Please read)
- Pricing assumes 7 of 10 weeks will run each term. If conditions allow, we’ll run all 10 weeks at no extra cost (effectively up to 3 bonus/make-up sessions built into the term).
- We aim to deliver as many sessions as possible and do ride in rain when safe to do so. Severe weather (e.g., storms, unsafe trail conditions) may require postponement, modification, or cancellation. Road trips may change destination/date due to weather, trail status, or third-party operations.
- Your booking reserves your rider’s space for the entire term. Like most season-based team sports, term pricing does not include credits, refunds, or alternative classes for weeks missed for any reason.
- Due to strict capacity limits, we generally cannot move participants between programs to make up missed/cancelled sessions.
- There are no credits or refunds for unused portions of term programs where riders cannot or choose not to attend remaining lessons.
